OK, here are a zillion pictures from our
trip to Nice, France! Rather than putting them into a format similar
to our other picture pages, I decided to spare you the dreadful download
time and just list the pictures in a table as follows, and let you decide
which images you want to view on your own. Feel free to send us any
comments or questions, especially if you have problems viewing any of the
images.
image 1 | Nice: A typical tight road with tiny cars squashed together along both sides |
image 3 | Nice: Note the double and triple parking! The domed building is the Hotel Negresco which is right on the main strip and the beach. |
image 7 | Nice: The downtown area with the buildings all squashed together as they climb up the mountains |
image 8 | Nice: The beach. The water is a beautiful blue, but those are egg sized rocks, not sand that the people are laying on. It was about 60 degrees on that day, by-the-way. |
image 9 | Nice: The beach in the other direction. Again, the Hotel Negresco is in the distance. The area to the right is Promenade Anglais which is the main strip along the beach, and a traffic nightmare. |
image 13 | A small village above Nice: Up in the hills and mountains are a bunch of tiny old villages that have been crammed onto any available flat land. Note that everything is stuck together. |
image 15 | A small village above Nice: This is our Renault Laguna which was WAY too large for the teeny roads and short parking lots. |
image 23 | Antibes: A typical Provencal meal including wine, lots of fat, and bread! |
image 31 | Nice: Another view of the downtown area from the top of the convention center looking north to the hills. |
image 38 | Cannes: The Ritz Carlton where we had some drinks with a couple from Glasgow...go figure! |
image 42 | Monaco: The view of the city and the port...note that every square inch of flat land is covered with concrete! |
image 43 | Monaco: Same view as 42, but panning a bit to the right. Note the size of the yachts! |
image 48 | Monaco: The palace. If the flag is flying, the royal family is in residence. |
image 55 | Monaco: A smaller port on the other side of the palace. |
image 56 | Monaco: The mountains northwest of town/country. |
image 57 | Monaco: The palace from the courtyard. Right behind us was a huge souvenir shop |
image 60 | Monaco: Note how they build as closely to the edge of the cliffs as possible. When your entire country fits into New York's Central Park space is at a premium! |
image 61 | Monaco: Walking in one of the many shopping districts. |
image 63 | Monaco: The Casino. Unfortunately you can't see the Ferraris, Mercedes limosines, or other signs of wealth that were surrounding it in this image. |
image 67 | San Remo: Still all squashed together, a little less clean than in France. |
image 69 | San Remo: Same same |
image 75 | Portofino: A beautiful town on the Italian Riviera, but this is basically all there is to it! It's very nice, takes an hour to get to from the highway, but is very very very small. |
image 76 | Portofino: The rest of the town, panning a bit to the left from image 75. |
image 78 | The Italian Riviera: A view from the road heading from Portofino back to the highway. A typical Italian coastal town with the ocean to the left, and the mountains to the right. |
