Welcome
to the website of my Christmas village: Sotonia! Chances
are you've been forced to look at these pages by Roy, and chances are
that he'll ask you to rave about it. So please humor him, and
tell him it's the bestest village you've ever ever seen! Here are some details for your viewing pleasure: 1) Name of village: Incorporated Village of Sotonia 2) Affiliated towns: Maxville (the rural water-side farming community to the east) and Mount Zach (the recreation area to the west) 3) Mayor: Roy! 4) Government type: Despotism 5) Number of buildings: 23-25 (depending on what you count) 6) Number of people: 129 7) Date of founding: Christmas 2000 8) Animals: 14 dogs, 3 raccoons, 4 pigs, 1 cow (Bessy -- she provides milk for the village), 4 horses (including one foal), 1 stubborn donkey, 14 geese/ducks/chickens, 3 deer just outside of Maxville, and 1 little lamb 9) Snowmen: 5 10) Energy: Mixture of electric light bulb and wind (we added a windmill in an attempt to go green this year) 11) Transportation: Train, gondola, and horse/buggy 12) Pieces: Mixture of Santa's Workbench (from JoAnns Etc until they stopped making them), Lemax (excluding people, because theirs are way too big...it's freaky), Carole Towne (the water tower), Canterbury Lane (some of the recent people), and Department 56 (gondola and windmill only). Train is O-scale Bachmann North Pole Express. Snow is from Pottery Barn and Michaels, and is a mixture of cotton sheeting, shredded plastic, and sprinkled powder. The first 2 pictures were taken from the balcony overhead. As you probably all know by now, Sotonia grows every year, and this year it grew from an L-shape to the current wedge-looking thing that it is. Size is approximately 36 square feet. Mount Zach is the mountain to the left, and includes the fire station, Christmas tree farm, and veterinarian's office. Maxville is to the right, and has a bunch of thatched roof houses, barns, a lighthouse, a livery, and a general store. Sotonia proper has a church (flanked appropriately by a winery and apothecary), train station, and a bunch of other buildings. The train runs around the downtown area, although it's off most of the time as it tends to jump the track...too much snow! |
